Process for the full design service

Phase 1: Initial consultation
An initial meeting with the client on site enables me to carry out a garden appraisal and clarify the client’s brief. Following this meeting I compile a garden report and sketch ideas and images to illustrate design options.

Phase 2: Concept plan
Either I carry out a survey of the garden, or depending on the complexity, a surveyor will be commissioned to carry out a full topographical survey of the area. Following this I develop the concept design plan to present to the client.

Phase 3: Detailed design and master plan
Once the concept plan has been agreed with the client I finalise the concept drawings in 2D and 3D. I also prepare specification documents and meet the landscape contractor on site so they can prepare quotes for the building work.

Phase 4: Design and monitoring of build
I produce technical construction drawings for the Contractor to work from, source and order plants. I also monitor the build on site at key stages.

Phase 5: Aftercare and Maintenance
I provide a tailor-made guide to caring for the new plants in your garden and am happy to recommend a maintenance programme for you.

Fee structure

I follow the Society of Garden Designers fee structure. Overall costs will depend on the level of work involved and is worked out on an hourly rate.  Once I have visited your garden and discussed your needs, I will be able to give a quote for the design work involved.
